Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

Are we really better than the competitors?

TR is my first job. Some acquaintances work for our competitors and when they tell me about their experiences at work, it seems to me that the grass there is much greener. I'm even starting to think about applying for work there. Is there anyone who has worked with our main competitors, just to briefly compare my work atmosphere here and there?

@OP+1977jAkb - your first job? It doesn't really matter whether the grass is greener at one firm or another. All that should matter to you is how will working at Company A or B is better for you. This is no different than execs deciding to outsource jobs from Country A to Country B.

Rather than look towards the working conditions of TR's competitors, you should start by looking at the job you currently have. Do you like it and get enjoyment from it, or is it pretty much a drudge job? Do you enjoy working with your colleagues? Are they pleasant and helpful? Do you feel you have been given adequate training and the tools to do your job? Do you feel you have job security? Do you have a manager who is approachable and helpful? Are you happy with your pay and benefits? Do you feel you can progress in your current role. Weigh all of these things up first, before thinking of TR's competitors. If you find there are more negative than positives, then perhaps looking at competitors may be in your best interests.
