Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

I see little has changed

I walked away just ahead of the pandemic (early retirement) but from the posts I see very little has changed. Exxon has been making the same mistakes for decades, since the eighties. Getting rid of the people with experience without thinking about how that'll influence the company in the long term. Those who've been here for a while will know what I'm talking about. My best advice to you youngsters is to learn all you can and hit the road. if things haven't changed by now, I doubt they'll ever change.

I spent 40 years in the Oil and Gas Industry. Worked for drilling contractors for 24 of them and ExxonMobil for 16. I agree with the previous post about experience workers. Mobil employees was the operational side of the business and Exxon was was the engineering side. After the merger, Exxon management all along was to slowly reduce the Mobil employees and make a stronger engineering company. It has finally come, they have filled their campus and office with young Texas A&M graduates, and have pushed them to the fields where they are trying to lead drilling operations. Failures after failures, but gets heavily promoted for drilling a well way over AFE but "we did it safely". I am so relieved to have received the call into retirement. I seen this coming for a long time. Oh and by the way, ExxonMobil is a Company who believes that paying dividends is more important than their people, REASONS FOR THAT IS THE UPPER MANAGMENT HAVE SO MANY SHARES OF STOCK THAT $0.87/SHARE EARNS THEM MILLIONS OF DOLLARS. Its a public traded company therefore, not if but when this company goes tits up, then there will be many billionaires walk away from the train wreck.
