Do affected employees still get their bonuses once they're announced or no? I think it's a c-appy way to lay off employees so close to bonuses unless they're going to receive them after all. That's a reward for work they've already done, they should still get it. If they don't, this really isn't the kind of company I thought it was.

I stayed after the retirement offer to eligible employees from 2+ years back. I fully expected this to be NOT MORE than 2 - 3 years extension. I was 100% correct. Because I was mentally and financial prepared the layoff, although always a surprise, was NOT a shocker by any means. After nearly 32 years I have nothing bad to say about the company. Accidentally my layoff package contained exactly the same befits as the retirement package presented to me earlier. So I'm not sure why so many people jumped into the retirement two years ago.
Certain things with JH that I wish could be changed. Among them is constant outsourcing of engineering jobs which is clearly not a good thing for US based employees. Comradely that is lost with teams not being located in one geographical location. Rather harsh way they handle notifications to laid off employees now and in the past. It could and should have been done better. But...I guess this are all signs of the times we are living in and its here to continue until farther notice.
Overall I'm grateful for the years and opportunity that I was given and particularly for meeting and working with many great and talented people. And BTW yes all the bonuses due from the previous year were paid. No complains here...:-).
can comment on own experience, received VIP statement at same time as term agreement, and paid out (rolled over) yesterday. Guessing the timing is to ensure no entitlement to any 2021 VIP as let go before start of next comp cycle.
