Discontinuing IBM Matching Grant program for retirees

Slightly off topic, but here's another example of IBM chipping away at itself. What's next?

Dear IBM Retiree,
IBM has long been a leader in corporate social responsibility due to our ability to refine and reimagine our approach on social impact programs. As we look ahead to 2021 realities, we have made the strategic decision to accelerate our corporate responsibility investments in education, skills, climate, and social inclusion. We believe that we can do more in this challenging and rapidly changing world by focusing on these priorities.

As part of this approach, we are reaching out to let you know that we will be discontinuing the IBM Matching Grants program for IBM retirees. Although this program is ending, there are still other resources available to encourage and help retirees with their volunteerism and charitable efforts.

blah, blah ...

THANKS FOR POSTING. Trying to get info or forms on retiree match has been a phenomenal nightmare. Only now to find it's been gone for years.

That's really upsetting. I have 30+ years, and expect to be laid off – or quit – at some point this year. One of the reasons I was happy to make it to retirement, was because IBM would continue to match (albeit at a lower rate) many of my charitable donations. My one expected positive association with IBM – out the window.

"IBM has long been....."

Today's IBM hasn't long been anything. There used to be an IBM that was a leader, but that company is dead and buried. The current thing called "IBM" is quite different.

Once IBM takes something away, it never gives it back...

No GDP this year, do you really think we will ever see GDP again? No, IBM will find going forward excuses not to pay GDP.
