I just got put into PIP. will i get let go after this? does it mean i got “fired”? If i were to look for another job if they let me go after this, will HW disclose that i got terminated due to PIP?

"Managers should be able to" - Engineers, Managers, Directors, VPs. Actually all. But the moment you do that, you're put on the chopping block. It all points to the CEO. They all know how to play this game that's why they still have their jobs. Say "yes Sir!/Mam!, Great job!, clap your hands and applaud during meetings" or look for another job.
Managers should be able to express critical opinions about what they view as unfair processes (like arbitrary quotas) without fear of reprisals. How can these processes improve without this safeguard? Many companies have abandoned nine-block ratings, forced rankings, etc. Ultimately these changes occurred because both employees and managers expressed dissatisfaction, not because of a benevolent dictator.
@gzs: About your comment "managers need to push back against this employee abuse". Managers do not have the option to push back. If you don't salute and execute they simply replace you. I've been there and left for a better job.
For some U.S. business units, the PIP quota was increased this year even though the large scale layoffs should have lowered the numbers of underperforming workers. This was completely unethical and the managers need to push back against this employee abuse.
In May 2020 I got a call from my boss on a Friday afternoon right before I was about to go on furlough the following week where all my shortcomings were laid out to me (I had never otherwise had any bad performance reviews) and the idea of putting me on a PIP was brought up.
The writing was clearly on the wall, so I spent my furlough week looking for a job.
I was supposed to have another conversation with my boss the week I got back from furlough. It kept getting moved around on my calendar. He wouldn't answer my calls or emails
The following Monday he scheduled a meeting called "engineering review."
Surprise! It's my boss and HR telling me Friday would be my last day.
So - definitely start looking for a job. If they want to get rid of you, a PIP is a first step to showing you the door, but you might not even get that far.
I got lucky and found a much better a few months later with much better benefits (healthcare is half as much, 401k match paid out as I go) and 25% more salary.
Makr sure you complete those PIP action plan on time and check in with your mgr on your progress on those actions
There is a quota to allocate into those 9 blocks. So as prev noted, some mgr just rotate people in and out of the elbow, when they have no under performers
Honeywell will not give you a good or bad recommendation, they will not acknowledge that you ever worked there or even lived or breathed.
All they will do is provide you with an overly complex website portal with cryptic instructions which will "allow" your prospective employer to "see" that you were once a Honeywell employee.
PIP's don't necessarily mean you're on the chopping block as there are quotas that each manager must fill...however, if you do NOT jump through the arbitrary hoops and stumbling blocks cast in your path, you WILL be on the list to go with the next RIF and that will relieve your manager of the emotional baggage that comes with having to pick the "least" employee from a "great" group of employees to let go when the time comes. Don't let that happen.
It's a HR requirement that a certain percentage of direct report employees are placed in the outer L and on a PIP. It doesn't matter how high a functioning group you're in. Remember that when they are shoveling how "ethical a company Honeywell is" down to you.
A PIP is part of the pre-determined review process. PIPs need to be doled out during the process. Unless you are really useless you will ride along the process and survive. Next review it will be handed off to someone else. HW generally does not fire you for a PIP but will RIF you. I would LOVE to be placed on a PIP.
Seems to be going around, especially in the US. Stay calm, don't react, don't write any nasty grams etc.... Do what they tell you, document it, keep plugging away. Above all, your not alone, get your Resume ready, start looking, take interviews. There are several facilities that will be phased out in the US, this is just a wake-up call. No they can only verify that you were employed, not slander you.
