Thread regarding L3Harris Technologies layoffs

What would good management do?

It's becoming unbearable to work here. I wonder how this company could be better?
Since everything starts with management, I’m interested in what moves would good management take if they came to this company? I believe that some changes should be radical and that the process would be time consuming.

You mean ordering lunch isn't a tough job? HR thinks that party planning is a major component of their job description.

"Attend a few meetings (one of which HAS to be for her free lunch)
Go home around 4:30 p.m. and say 'I'll have my cell if you need me' (because she is absolutely so vital to the company!)"

I've worked for the very same. I literally had a supervisor and a Director sit around and waste TWO HOURS of time looking over menus and talking about where to order a company paid for lunch.
Apparently this was the priority of their day.

"Dear HR department;
Fire all current managers and supervisors. Start there and this company may still have a chance."

If HR fired all of the incompetent managers and supervisors (which they don't have the authority to do anyhow) there would be no one for them to gossip with. I think you give way too much credit to the HR Dept. If you trust them, you do so at your own risk.

I also had a major customer tell me how much they could not stand my supervisor. She would never get anything done for them and made excuses. Turned the account over to me in complete shambles and then expected everything to be 'perfect' moving forward.
She purposely set me up to fail. L3Harris seems to allow this kind of management style.

The saying used to be that there was 'one if every office'... at L3... the numbers are much higher. Almost comical to try and watch these so-called titans of industry on stilts try and manage their day. When you have customers telling you how awful your boss is, then you know it's bad.

You must be talking about the same Director. NICE.

Here's her daily routine:

  • Show up in the office around 10:15 a.m. (always seems to have an appointment, emergency, or other reason for her tardy arrival)
  • Walk into a few departments (where everyone has already been working for two hours) to poke around and check on orders (in the system that she has no clue of how to use)
  • Attend a few meetings (one of which HAS to be for her free lunch)
  • Go home around 4:30 p.m. and say 'I'll have my cell if you need me' (because she is absolutely so vital to the company!)

ONE OF THE BIGGEST, BLONDEST DUMBBELLS EVER.

Grand Rapids promoted several for the very same reasons from the rumor mill. Believe me, it's so clear how they ended up with Director level roles and cannot manage to log in to the company's order entry system. And this person has been with the company for three decades, so that promotion was well-timed, I'd say.

SLC selected three Vice Presidents and one Division President that way.

"I've also heard that there were a few who had some more creative ways of 'getting a job by giving a job', so that's probably something HR won't bother with either. It was supposedly a bit of a quiet little scandal once upon a time."

Let's just say that some people were hired, and some were promoted all at the very same time... you can figure out who did what if you think real hard.

HR doesn't notice either. They embrace the fools who are supervisors and managers. It's called being promoted into incompetence. L3 Grand Rapids was notorious for this. I've also heard that there were a few who had some more creative ways of 'getting a job by giving a job', so that's probably something HR won't bother with either. It was supposedly a bit of a quiet little scandal once upon a time. I wouldn't know. I don't need to fixate on those sorts of things. They are more concerned with walking around and being nosy just to act like they are working on something. Gossip is their end game. They see the same people standing in the hallways day after day doing nothing and they actually join them just to stand around and talk about nonsense... that's IF you are not an hourly employee. Otherwise, you had better be at your desk non-stop. (Oh, and your supervisor will change her policy on this frequently, with her grasshopper head on a swivel, because she cannot manage a department if she tried.) If they fired all of the managers and supervisors, L3 actually might have people show up who weren't sick to their stomachs every day and could work in peace. There would be actual work getting done by those who have a work ethic. Customers might actually get their paid for orders. It wouldn't be the daily lie fest and oral arguing on who is supposed to do what in a five hour long lunch meeting for those managers who still don't have a clue on what a purchase order even looks like.

Too funny.
"Since everything starts with management" is a clear indicator of what kind of @$$ kisser wrote this one.
