Hunter Harrison was not a fan of contractors because he knew they financially abused the railroad. NS seems to love them, despite this fact. It's time to bring the work back in house, maintain a stable work force and get rid of the money wasting on all unneeded contractors.

Dear carman union leaders,
If you read these pages, it might be time to get off your a– and start fighting for your contractual rights. The reason why the dues paying members have been cut to the bone is partially because the company is running all over the work rules without any objection.
Were I am at corporate has threatened the managements jobs telling them “if they can’t get it done they will find someone who will “ so rather than loose there jobs they sneak contractors in to do a lot of the road work. That keeps 2 more guys in the yard working repairs. The contractors even brag about how much work they are doing. I once asked how much they charge to change a wheel , he replied a sh– ton than I asked how long it takes to get paid , he got real quiet for a minute and said it takes a bit to get paid.
My wave of the future for NS is having 3 fingers and a thumb down and one finger up.
NS loves contractors.
Cheaper than paying employees with benefits and zero liability.
I fear it's the wave of the future for the company.
And maybe I'll win the lottery too.
They only use them for the perks that come with it. I know for a fact that SGFs and Shop Managers in mechanical get work done for them personally for awarding contracts. Not to mention the high end equipment that mysteriously goes missing that lower level employees would even have access too. It’s funny too because all I have seen in our “silent auctions” were a three leg tables and 200lb IBM computer monitors. Wonder what happened to the Kubota or Plasma Cutter? LOL 🏴☠️
I’m a contractor and I love doing business with NS. Takes them a while to finally pay their bills, but I charge them a fortune so I’ll take it.
Agreed, however when is the last time Ns do anything that made sense ?
Those days are over
