Thread regarding Altice USA (Cablevision) layoffs

Dissappointed

When I first came to this company, everything looked promising, I thought I would be able to learn a lot there. I realized very quickly that there was none of that here. I was grateful because I managed to get a job without much previous experience, and that’s why I always tried to give 150 percent of myself.
I am very disappointed. Wish I had left left this company long before. In relation to your expectations, how much did this company actually disappoint you?

I empathize with that disappointment. When I started at what was then Cablevision, I was hoping it would be my "forever job," but a couple years later, Altice bought them out. Over the 7 years I was there I was essentially demoted by re-orgs a few times, and very little of my work was valued. I was glad to have a job in my field, but it was extraordinarily demoralizing. I used to joke that you could win a Nobel prize, but you'd still get a rating of "meets expectations" (or whatever the actual middle rating was) at Altice lol.

If you are young get out and get something stable. There is opportunity to move up but there is no stability long term. Once you start making good money you will never leave. But then again with the progression and raises post cablevision that could take forever. Put it this way there is no way I could make it in the current environment just starting out.

Hopefully you didn’t waste too much of your life . Even if you did learn something the system of getting promoted and moved to a better department has been corrupt since the beginning of time . You had a better chance of doing something other than FS if you were someone’s friend or relative than you had if you were a great tech. Altice just didn’t promote at all . They put you on loan and made you do the work without putting you in the department . The place is definitely one big waste of time.
