I don’t have high expectations from this job, but I barely managed to find it, so I can’t complain for now. A colleague warned me that UP fires for the dumbest possible reasons.
Is that really true? Because of the smallest details?
I can say that I’m a little worried about that too, because I wouldn’t like to be fired so quickly.

The only time I’ve seen people fired over dumb sh– has primarily been after doing a bunch of stuff that should’ve gotten them fired earlier. The only exception is someone getting fired for yelling at a manager that had been badgering him.
Look plain and simple. You want work? Then apply. You don't want to work you'll get hired, but in a couple to a few years you'll get fired. 22 years, I've never had a paycheck not show up when it was supposed to. Got payed twice, one half, but UP caught it and after calling my bank, I had to do nothing to let them recoup the second paycheck.
Long story short. Your Union, may not like it. When you do get break a rule that putts you in to Fired mode you will have a recourse in 24 to 35 months. Win or lose, Its an option. Give it a shot, You might get lucky.
If your employment is terminated, you can call it being fired, laid off, or taking a ride on a unicorn to the moon. But what you can’t call it is getting a paycheck.
When people say “fired” they usually are talking about discipline. It’s almost impossible to get fired unless you steal or don’t show up to work. I have seen many workers have multiple discipline events and they are still working. The company downsizing is another matter. Nobody is safe from being let go if they feel your position can be eliminated. Good luck, keep your resume active on indeed and whatever other job sites you can.
Not "Fired" layed off is the more likely option. I saw guys with 10 plus years and stellar records walked off for nothing more than corporate greed.
Some guy I used to work with was fired because he was flirting with a coworker over same time. Go ahead and delete this post even though it’s the truth. Courage to care.
No sir. Just go up to your local manager and ask for a UP hot dog and enjoy. You’ll be at retirement from this great company before you know it. Welcome to the family
