Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Nike still means something to a lot of people

A few things annoy me as much as those who act smart with their "just leave, will you" talk. Everybody has a reason for staying and while none of them are anybody else's business, I'll share mine. I joined Nike over fifteen years ago. It was a dream come true at the time. I loved my job and I watched in horror as things started to change and deteriorate. That didn't change the way I feel about this company, just about those who run it. I'd rather stay and work on making it a better place once again (and yes, that includes complaining and criticizing) than tuck tail and run.

Other than a paycheck, this company means nothing to me...nothing at all. That is why if I am ever laid off, I will not be bothered one bit...onto the next paycheck. Just being honest, nothing against Nike or those who feel some type of a connection with it.

That’s how I felt until I ran out of gas and realized my mental and physical health was in peril.

To the person saying it's nothing more than the athletes walking around with millions of dollars in their pockets, I beg to differ. When I joined Nike I came because sport is one of the most unifying elements in the world. It bridges cultural, socioeconomic, and many other barriers to bring people together for the joy of the game. Nike has its faults, as an employee many of us are feeling them now. However, at the end of the day I'm still in my role & haven't left at this point because of the passion for the mission at Nike is evident every single day in the people I work with. Many of us are tired and worn down from the havoc CDA has wreaked across the organization, but that passion hasn't died with the reorg nor has it erased the talent present in the organization in the form of its people. I 100% feel that CDA has been an absolute nightmare, we lost teammates, entire teams were lost & now we're left to figure out who's doing the work, and of course many of us were disheartened by the behavior of our senior leader - but I think my passion for being a part of something that can unite everyone (sport) keeps me in my seat & powering through meeting after meeting of how to navigate this new CDA landscape. Just my opinion.

It means athletes walking away with hundreds of millions of dollars in contracts because they toss a ball around. Some may pretend to be about social justice, but it's all a corporate lie on the backs of overseas slave labor.
