Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

Ruined my career!

This company ruined my career. Was soooo proud to join the oil and gas industry with my skills...second year in...hit the skids. Learned the good old boys club game. Regret going there. I've had to go back 20 years since they cut me off at the knees just to make a check. Stay away. Run away. Worst decision I ever made.

@akwd+19RPpJks Again i will say, Look in the mirror and point the finger at yourself. If you accept a job on a promise and stay at that job when there is doubt, it's your fault! Plus you would be considered an id–t by many people.

By the way, i never said i was a "tough person" as you stated. Anyway, i have had many jobs and many opportunities in my lifetime and never once have i blamed a company for ruining my career. Using common sense and gut feelings i most always avoided bad situations pertaining to a career.

It’s not always the persons fault tough person. @svo+19RPpJks
I’ve seen it many times where someone is brought in with promises and they end up being lies. A persons took that job over others because of what was told. So they end up staying there several years so as to not ruin their resume. Doe MCD no on your age when you joined, this can ruin your career. If you work at that dead job during the formative years of a person’s career where higher ups choose and groom people for roles, well then you next roles you higher for will continue to be support roles and lower level. Juts the way it is. So yes a company CAN ruin your career.

Learning to code isnt going to make a difference. It's all been outsourced, here in the States and overseas.

"Learn coding, apply big techs, and then work for stocks, not paychecks."

This is the way

First time to see this site. The bitter whiners that posted here are exhibiting the characteristics that contribute to the layoff. As others have said, take responsibility and quit blaming others. But you're probably too stupid to recognize that.

Be on the lookout for a no-hair turtle looking dude...
Counsel at headquarters loves to read these while he flies on Pepsi.
When he's not flirting with HR he is trying to ruin someone's career.

I can name at least 20 people that are accountable for my demotion. Some of the “National” leaders wouldn’t let me have a Segway, they were just selfish. I am the best fishing tournament attendant in the world. I have shoot offs with a customer. Expense.

Yep, pretty sad if you think about. Guys on here saying after a decade and after 20 years i realized i wasted my time and ruined my career. The dumb f***s need to look in the mirror and point the finger. I guess next they will tell you they couldn't leave because they needed the money or because my friend wouldn't help me get another job...always someone else's fault except their own.

Couldnt agree more, i once thought this was a great place to have a career. Now i feel like it was nothing more than a decade wasted. I will be making a jump soon. Good luck to those of you that feel there is still something left to gain. Hope you have a life jacket when the ship sinks!

Yea they care less about you if you’re not in their click of ignorant uneducated mo–ns. Use them like they’ve used you. Work less, moonlight, travel, expense everything like the CMO does (smaller scale of course lol) & just don’t give two $hts about your future there....just collect your check and shut them off.

Ha, oh man, are you me? 20 years in and finally realizing no matter how much success or how much I have brought to the table it doesn't matter to the good ol boys. They've no future or plans for me and my career. A completely wasted career thinking NOV would recognize of value anything I ever contributed.

You should learn how to gossip more and blame other people. It works for me!

Next time try to be the worse at your job. Look at me, I was promoted and transferred into a Director position after wooing a gullible VP at a fishing tournament. He brought me over and not only was I horrible at my job, I managed to get a promotion and throw that VP under the bus. I got a Segway, I got a bunch of gossip and the rest is history. Still here in my undeserving corner office throwing people under the bus and still not knowing a thing about a rig.....So work less....earn more. Good luck.

It's whiners like you that ruined your career buddy. Learn to take responsibility for your own actions. If you think the company you work for isn't treating you right, then make a change.
