Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Any regrets?

I’ve spent over 15 years with this company and I’m still here. After all this time there is one regret I have. I was never given any significant opportunities to actually add to my skillset since I got my foot through the door. I hate to say it but I believe all the knowledge and experience I’ve gained will not be as desirable or valuable to other companies out there. Which means that even if I wanted to leave, I’m not sure I can, at least not right now.

Agree. Being put on ‘projects’ that are spun to make you think you are gaining experience, it’s just a way to make you think like you’re learning but in reality they are too cheap to hire someone to do the job. Many positions dumbed down that once had accountability and turned into being overpaid data entry roles because finance drives the numbers that Wall Street wants to hear rather than actual market analysis.
The one good thing we all have going is the name ‘Nike’ on the resume and that will turn heads and make recruiters look at you.

It maybe safe to assume that many of us have at least one regret. More importantly than the regrets, is what we learn from them so we may not get stuck. For me, I absolutely regret accepting the role I am currently in, and reporting to the THIS manager (I did not say leader). I will never repeat this mistake again and I am using all my experience, network, etc to get unstuck.

I fell into a trap of taking on more and more roles that weren't related to my skillset because I thought that was my ticket to getting converted to an FTE. I ended up becoming the dreaded "Jack of All Trades" and realized I wasn't going to ever get converted and I'd have very little I could use in my resume/portfolio. Glad I listened to my gut and left for greener pastures.
