Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

They kept people who were sick of EM, and laid off those who wanted to stay

I wonder how many jobs could have been saved for people who wanted to stay here, if only a voluntary program had been offered?
It would certainly be a better and fairer approach to layoffs, but it did not benefit this company or at least the management thought so. I don’t know why they want to keep those who don’t care about work here, and at the same time lay off some of the best workers. Logic has long since disappeared from here.

My singapore colleagues shared that connections and family ties help to keep their job in EM, at the expense of those who really wanted to stay.

Some natural attrition will come from those who want to continue WFH. I'm good with that, one less person to compete for a job with.

Expectation was that those that would volunteer would also be those that voluntarily left in the next few months. Corporate by no means wants to "save jobs". In fact, they want to get rid of more during this next cycle. Free of compensation of course.
