Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

How surprised were you by the layoffs at DSM?

I was really shocked when I found out. They did everything to make people think they were safe and then a disaster happened. I try to view layoffs as a short term loss for a long term gain. This is another great lesson I learned at Nike, and that is that you should always be prepared, even when there seems to be no indication that layoffs could occur.

@4bfk, what is that "special category"?

Now add in a recent slew of people posting on Linked in about their new Nike job, some of which are very much in the special category realm. It’s crazy!

This is what happens when you bring in a person from outside Nike as the CEO. He has no idea what makes Nike special and is just a former Bain guy concerned with expense management and has publicly endorsed stack ranking employees. The good days of working at Nike have come and gone until a true Nike vet is back at the helm. But even then it might be too little too late.

If you had a role doing some sort of planning for a “category”, it was only a matter of time.

I'll put it bluntly. JD is a greedy lying sack of sh:t and nothing he says is worth a d%mn.

In December, he said CDA was over and that this was our team going forward. That lasted less than 3 months.

Meanwhile, Nike is pulling in record revenue and profit while expenses are low due to Covid.

Have Nike employees ever trusted the CEO less than they do now? It's sad how far the morale has fallen.

I'm done with the all employee meetings. I don't want to hear another word from that smarmy >sshat again.

I agree with @aqs, harsh or not, that is the reality. Go ahead, trust those leaders even though you know they never stick to any promise they make. Wise up and open your eyes.

@aqs that might be a little harsh. Let’s be realistic - CEO JD and COO AC have said multiple times we are done with CDA. Yet here we are in another BS debacle. This. Is. Exhausting. It’s b—s—. Since JD has taken over the messages he spews are constantly inconsistent. It’s exhausting and he really needs to go. We cannot continue in this uncertain trajectory.

Anyone who is surprised by anything that occurs at Nike is simply not paying attention or lacks basic critical thinking skills.
