Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Why do some still take things very personally?

They definitely don’t care if you love the company. These surveys are just show and nothing else. At this point we have to realize this is a job and nothing else. The company owes me a paycheck for the work I do and I owe them an honest days work for that pay. I do not owe them anything else. UP will let us go whenever they believe we are no longer get needed and we are free to find other jobs whenever we can or want to. I look at UP as a way to make money and take care of my family. When I am no longer wanted here or find what I consider a better job I will leave. I am past taking this stuff personally. The company only looks at us as numbers and I consider them a tool to make a living, no love lost on either side.

Highlight from +19VxtNFB thread. Many people suffer because they do not they accept that they are just a number here.

“When you leave here you will find out all corporations hate their employees”. Wow what a sales pitch to stay at UP. Trust me and the hundreds of others that have left UP, you are full of sh–. UP is a complete joke. And it isn’t about loving your employees. It is in the companies interests for it to be known as a good place to work. Otherwise nobody with any sense will want to work there, and that’s what you have now at UP.

I resigned after what UP did. Stop trying to justify fleecing the middle class. You sound pathetic. Sure, that might be the way things are, but it doesn't make it right. I'm much happier in passenger rail where I don't have the third reich chasing me around with sticks. People like you passively accept things and make it worse for the next generation of middle class workers. Our kids and grandkids. It used to be the man could support his entire family with his job. Now, thanks to people like you both parents have to work and they barely make it. Way to not take things personally.

This is how the corporate world works. In every large organization the executives and board of directors make millions while the employees just get by. Why is this so hard to understand? This is not just a UP thing, but a corporate thing. I don’t like cuts either, and don’t like the direction the company is taking, but I am realistic about this. To the id–t that makes remarks about getting off your knees, can’t you find anything more intelligent to add? And no, I am not a manager, not that it matters. I just can’t believe so many people think UP is the only company treating it’s employees this way. When you leave here you will find out the hard way that all corporations hate their employees.

Sounds like someone has a clown fetish. I see the unions fighting for 2 man crews I unfortunately don’t hear about them working very hard for any other crafts. I willing to bet two man crews will be around a lot longer than let’s say Carmen, fireman oilers, or utility clerks. I’m assuming clown person is one of these people. I hope none of these people lose their jobs I’m just stating that it seems these would be the most likely to be done by non union lower paid contractors.

No dummy. We used to have 3 guys working the 100 plus car intermodal trains. Now it's just one person walking up to 125 cars by themselves in sub zero weather. Sounds like you have a clown job that's about to be eliminated with 1 man crews. 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡

$ 500.00 per 8hr shift. Where do you work headquarters? I make half of that. I’d happily give 100% for that kinda cheddar. The reason I don’t work hard anymore is because no incentives are offered, claims don’t get paid, no bonus, no point. Pay the minimum get the minimum. Seems to work great for me and my body doesn’t hurt from over doing it for no reason. I get paid the same no matter if I switch 1 track or 10 tracks.

The agreed upon work has tripled? Or is it really just they expect an 8 hour day from you finally after all these years. Yeah, I’ll take what is an 8 hour day for $500 Alex. I guess when you aren’t used to being held accountable and actually working all these years, that can feel like triple the work 😂😂🤡🤡

You are correct this is how business operates. Please tell me one other company that recalls its employees then cuts the boards the same day. Yes made it three hours on the board. Refurloughed a few days later. Is it personal no. Did I leave my other job no. At the end of the day this just shows how incompetent this place is run. These are the little things that make your post dumb.

The agreed upon work has now tripled, and you're getting paid the same. That's not ethical while others are making millions at your expense dude. Get off your knees man.

I am not sure what you mean about them living off corporate welfare and owing you more. They don’t owe you anything more than your agreed upon pay and benefits. You don’t owe them anything more than your agreed upon work. Everyone needs to quit acting like they have been betrayed, this is how the corporate world works. Most of us that worked in other industries before the RR realize this. Companies are not loyal to you and you don’t owe them loyalty. They are your employer not your friends or family.

UP got free land and lives off corporate welfare. I’d say they owe more than all the people passively aggressively defending them say.

100% agree. People act like jilted lovers on here. You work, you get paid. Business evolves, becomes more lean, they lay off. Business grows at other times, you get called back or they hire. Life & business is cyclical. They owe you nothing other than your agreed upon terms of pay & insurance etc. You owe them nothing other than to do your job to the best & safest of your ability.

To the OP: Dude get off your knees and be a man. Of course UP doesn’t care about anyone but you seem like you are making excuses for them. Nobody thinks UP is our family. The only people that say UP is a family are the CEO and all the courage to care clowns.

It’s not dumb, it’s the truth. Everyone acts like UP is a family member who turned on them. The fact is this is how the business world operates. It’s business, not personal, period. They can hire and let us go whenever they like and there is nothing we can do about it. We are free to quit and go to another job whenever we like and there is nothing they can do about it. The employees and company are not married to each other. I have worked here for almost thirty years and appreciate that I have a check every two weeks, nothing more. I don’t love or hate UP. I recognize the situation for what it is. The corporate world is a money, greed, stockholder, dividends based entity. We are pawns in this and all the complaining in the world will not change one thing. It’s better for your mental health if you come to terms with these facts.
