Workers told no more home garaging and to report back to the base to start & end their day. Windstream states cost & lack of production for the main reason. Safety once again takes a back seat , oh btw the local managers are still using the company owned vehicles to go back and forth to home and on weekends for personal use. Smh

I had a similar issue. Manager said to get the spare from a CO about a hour away. I asked how I am getting there, he said get a teammate to give me a ride. I asked which teamamate did he suggest, he replied it was my problem. I called every teammate twice, only two guys answered and they were busy. I called my manager back and left him a VM stating I called every teammate and nobody was willing or able to pick me up. He calls me back a week later telling me how that was unacceptable. I agreed and asked why he didnt get me a ride, I was laid off in the next RIF. Now I make 20% more and have actual health benefits, worked out for the best
This company and most management s—s. I used to work there. One Friday around 1:00 my brakes started smoking. I took car to closest Firestone. At about 3:00 they told me brakes were red hot when I arrived. They needed to order parts to repair and wouldn't complete job until Saturday afternoon. I had a family member take me home and I went back on my own time Saturday to pick up vehicle. Another tech got all over me ,said I should have called uber to get a ride to office (over an hour away) get a spare vehicle, go back to Firestone to get equipment then continue the work day. I could not have done this by 5:00 plus I already verified there was no spare vehicle.
The following week my general mgr got on my case, said the exact same thing. I tried to tell him I would have lost more time doing that. He didn't want to hear it . I worked for a company that was recently purchased by Wstrm and I think it was their way to get rid of me. I was let go on next round of layoffs. That tech had been giving me a hard time since we were purchased. I have also seen times when that tech was assigned to vehicle maintenance for 5-6 hrs at a time. Why didn't he use uber.
The problem is we are now a private company. No announcements of earnings, profits, or losses.
Just corporate cheerleading and rah rah from the leadership. We maybe out of bankruptcy the
ship took on too much water and is still sinking.
The company is on its last leg and this is a cost cutting measure. Vehicle fleet insurance gets reduced this way. LR5 need to increase their bonus.
I have to drive back into a major US city during rush hour everyday at the end of the day just to park. I will get 1-2hrs of OT daily. I used to never put down for that 1hr if I got home a little late as other days I would get home an hour early, so I felt it worked out. Now I will document every single hour. We are talking roughly an extra $15K a year. Subtract personal gas money, so maybe $10K overall bump in 2021 compensation.
Our local manager actually sold his personal vehicle and uses his company truck for personal use. Well he’s actually been doing that long before Covid . He said I haven’t received a raise in several years so I’m using their insurance and gas as my raise. The home garage concept was working well in our area but instead of punishing the bad apples we punish the entire base.
This is a large pay cut and pretty much the ONLY perk we have. If they take this away, people will quit.......but that’s probably what they’re hoping for.
I am fine with this. I have always been a company guy. 20yrs here and I always got my company vehicle serviced on the weekends on my own time. I always had my cell phone on even when not oncall ready to dispatch out if needed. Now I will drive to work and do my job Monday thru Friday and turn my cell off as soon as I get into my personal car to drive home at the end of the day and not turn it back on until I get into the office. Its just a job.
This is needed badly. I have a co-worker that drives his company car to upstate NY every weekend. Maybe now we wont see so many carseats in company vehicles as well. And the preferential treatment by management. One guy got fired because he filled up his company car on a sunday to save himself some time monday morning while someone under the same manager wasnt even written up when he got into a car accident with his wife and kids on a saturday in his company car. Why do you think we all have sweet SUVs and cars instead of the work vans?
The CFO knows what cost accounting and a waste of money is. See the cost accounting is accounting and allocating money for the LR5. The waste of money is employees. That is why you see a reduction in staff. Think about it. All of these years and hundreds of employees lost their jobs. The LR5 is still here and using the jet and getting the bonuses. They are not as dumb as they think you are.
Actually the whole place is pathetic to be honest.
That is your raise / bonus at work. I wish we had a REAL CFO that understood

Is that a GOOD use of $$$ post bankruptcy?
But nothing beats the CEO flying in on the corporate jet for a 20 minute meeting and then flying out.
Already have GPS on the trucks. I've personally watched many techs circle city blocks for hours at a time or sit at home while they are reporting they are on a ticket.
My favorite was one guy that always started his day with an 1.5 hour trip to the donut shop.

i remember working at ELNK and got a call because my truck went over 9 min idling...I was in a drive-thru. I was threatened with a write up...had to move my truck..shut it off..start it up..pull forward...shut it off...just so I didnt trip the threshold. I was constantly called that my truck went 5 miles over the speed limit...it is coming again
lol...CM always had a problem with techs taking trucks home or not reporting into a central location. Next will be GPS to monitor idle time and exact locations
Yep! The raising customer demands was what we were told.
So........ instead of leaving your house at 7:30 to be on the first job by 8 (because to many appt's were being missed if not, we were told), let's have everybody go back to the office at 8, dial in to get their load for the day, then head out to their first job. Oh, and to be threatened that if we are caught talking to each other, then they will start to stagger our shifts so that one tech starts at 8, then another at 8:30, then another at 9, etc...... I'm sure we really are going to be making all those appt's now!
We have an area that's pretty big. So now, the tech that lived in one of our small exchanges, who was being loaded tasks in his home exchange to start every day, is now driving 1.25hrs to the office, just to turn right back around, and drive back 1.25 hrs from where he just came from. Yep, going to make those early morning appt's that much more now! Customer demand must be off the charts!
Saw a local manager at the grocery store with his wife one Sunday morning.
