Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Don't let Oracle get you down

So many people are wondering if they can find a job past a certain age and stressing unnecessarily over it. There are jobs out there and there are jobs for people in our age group. There are plenty of companies that value and welcome experience if the person has also kept their skills up to date. And you have no reason not to. You can find so many resources to expand your knowledge (free and paid) online these days that it really shouldn't take you long to add more stuff to your resume. Oracle is trying to make you feel like you are not worth much to continue to underpay you while you stay because you believe there are no alternatives. Prove them wrong.

I left oracle after a significant stint - use O’Reilly learning it’s free, get certified, find a job and move on

Agreed. Things are always darkest right before they go totally black.

My 61 year old software engineer spouse, with an Oracle and SQL Server background, had a new job within two weeks of being laid off last year. He used his network for the job referral and was also lucky to be looking when his new employer needed to quickly hire someone with experience.
