Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Are layoffs a regular occurance here?

I started last month and I constantly hear people at my store talking about possible layoffs and worrying about more positions being cut. Is this a regular occurance here? I know I probably should have asked this before I accepted the job but it is what it is.

Why do you think all the scans are done its to get to the point where it can be automated where buyers won't be needed anymore.

Order writers position is not needed any more and they want the longtime employees gone.

There used to be a serious amount of trust between WFM team members and leadership. That was destroyed five years ago when WFM laid off 1,500 team members. Previously, nothing like that had ever occurred, and to make things worse, it was handled very poorly. To anyone with a set of eyes, the reasons they gave were obviously lies. Since then, there has been a layoff or two, but nothing regular. Still, trust has been destroyed, and nobody has trusted global leadership since then.

As a new hire, I wouldn't be worried about being laid off. When it happens, they'll axe people in specialized positions who make more than you. I would, however, think about leaving WFM. It's been going downhill for years, and it's not getting any better.
