Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

Montrose machine shop next for the axe.

We are on the way out. Only managed to stop the redundancies happening before by agreeing to a 4 day week and making use of the furlough scheme. That scheme ends in six weeks and with no chance of the Arbroath prick getting work in we are fu__ed.

Furlough's about to end, what's gonna happen then. Burying our heads in the sand isn't going to save us.

Going by the silence on here it looks like the people in Montrose don't care if they lose their jobs, either that or they've been threatened by the 'psychopathic bullies' mentioned in previous post.

How many companies does the last poster have experience of to make comparisons in order to come to that conclusion? If his claim is bourne out by others then maybe it's just yet another case of NOV destroying another good company. Or more likely it just all went down the pan when big Stu(pid) took over the reins.

If true Montrose is closing i hope you all find jobs soon, pre NOV this was by far the best machine shop in the NE Scotland, retired TPI.

Sad when people get into theses situations through no fault of their own. Going by what I've read on this post and what I know about NOV from experience it could be a blessing in disguise. I hope all you guys find jobs elsewhere and when you do you'll find they're better jobs with much better companies. Let's face it, the incompetent managers aren't going to change and become competent in the future so if you stay this will be your lot for ever, lurching from crisis to crisis and having to put up with psychopathic bullies who masquerade as managers but actually have less business accumen than labourers working under them.

So the Arbroath tosser thinks we dont deserve to have jobs. Well Big Stu(pid) some of us can remember when you left before and then came back with your tail between your legs begging for your job back because your new boss saw how incompetent you were and sacked you.

I thought this thread was about closure of the machine shop at Montrose, it seems to have turned into a debate about Chemineer. Montrose Brent Avenue facility was in deep doodoo long before Chemineer products came up here. With "managers" like the ones NOV put in place the facility never stood a chance because there wasn't a manager among them. They were all as previously described brown nosing crawling snivelling back stabbing a—holes who had know clue how to run a business, the comment about the current manager being sacked by another company for incompetence just about sums it up. I hope all the guys find new employment quickly and the dipshits that caused this situation never work again, sad thing is they'll line their pockets at the expense of everyone else and won't need to look for work.

It's sad to see this, wherever you point the finger of blame for the mismanagement of the company, NOV is now a dinosaur in it's death throes.

The worst part of this is, the many ordinary workers that are losing their jobs in the midst of a worldwide pandemic are the ones suffering whilst at the top of the company the whole bunch of incompetent execs continue business as usual, using language such as "positioning the company to weather the storm" to cover for their morally repugnant attitude to laying off staff to cover for their many failings.

Easy to understand the level of anger and disgust at what NOV has become.

Still does not explain how the company survived since 1952 and still existed as a going concern sixty odd years later and only went down the tubes after acquisition by NOV then suddenly was no longer viable. I smell a whole lot of BS on here.

In all honesty there are a lot of truths here:
1) NOV acquires companies that were financially and/or technologically successful because there is no inNOVation within NOV.
2) Old CEO's theory of "you were successful before so keep doing what you were/are doing" doesn't work when you introduce them into a larger organization and now you have competing strategies and redundancies. There wasn't then and it's worse today with the leadership from up high putting forth a plan that puts everyone in a position to succeed. When you act this way you get all the disadvantages of being a corporation but acting like a bunch of little companies means you get none of the advantages of being a "little guy"
3) In this climate Montrose and many other facilities at NOV were doomed no matter who was in charge. You can point fingers and blame TIMe or Derbies or whoever you want but it was inevitable.

Hope you all find gainful employment and happiness. NOV is a dumpster fire and until leadership gets replaced it will continue to be last in the big companies providing equipment and services in oil and gas.

I would agree with the last post in most cases if in fact NOV had set out to buy Chemineer. The fact is, they hit this business as part of the R&M business that they originally purchased for one of the companies they had at the time who manufactured BOP’s, this was after the Gulf of Mexico disaster.

The Chemineer business just happens to be in the package along with the PCP Industrial business, they didn’t know what to do with it all so threw it all into the Mono Group.

Consequently, this action completely screwed what was a good business, they then put the two individuals from Derby in charge and the rest is history!

So, in summary the point stands, the UK Chemineer business was smoke and mirrors, still is

I would have to disagree with the last poster. No company would survive 6 months if it was being run the way he claims never mind 60 yrs. Also there is no way NOV would have bought it over if it was making s loss. Sounds to me like an NOV manager/s trying to cover their mistakes.

Regarding the last post. Chemineer just doesn’t fit with any large organisation as certainly in the UK business it was run like a corner store with no one really knowing how things were done, how much things cost and in reality if they actually made money, could be different in the US where your comments are probably true.

Fully agree in part with the post in that I certainly would not employ anyone who had managed the business for NOV and also had managed at Derby, that really would be foolish given their recent history at NOV.

NOV could save thousands by getting rid of the two Derby Dashers and I bet non one would notice they had gone, apart from the Chemineer diehards who believe everything was right in the world pre NOV.

Wake up, smell the coffee!

Chemineer was a successful company for nearly six decades and only started to go down the slippery slope of failure AFTER NOV got their grubby, incompetent hands on the the business. Can anyone see any parallels with other failed companies that were bought over by NOV. The failures were nothing to do with Chemineer managers and was the fault of top to bottom incompetence of NOV managers, just like all the other companies they bought over then screwed up. I would never employ anyone who had been a manager at any NOV facility.

The current manager only got to where he is by brown-nosing and back stabbing his colleague's constantly. I know because I was there and was one of the many he stabbed between the shoulder blades.

Once again we have a group of men at risk because of a manager who is just simply incompetent and not up to the job. Word has it he only lasted a few months as manager at another engineering company before they found him out and sacked him. NOV always ends up with the dregs when it comes to management recruitment they always sc-ape the bottom of the barrell.
