Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Calling people back to work.

I used to be an apprentice for the Union Pacific in the car department. I received a letter asking me if I would want to go work out west. there is actually no way that I would ever go back to that place. I quit my job to work for them and they laid me off nine months later. now they're asking me to come back to work again only to be laid off later on. I learned by less than the first time but they're not going to get me the second time.

Hey to living out of you car
How many more years do you think you have left since most railroaders only make it a few years after retirement. Going threw that much misery I would rather have holidays and weekends off enjoying it while I’m young. Glad I got laid off 4 hours of vacation every paycheck day lights and making more pretty good retirement also.

I would go back, if it’s better pay, better benefits and better retirement then I would go back. Other people say they won’t because they are scared or probably didn’t even got a call back and got furloughed. Gotta have thick skin in the railroad and don’t take everything personal, it’s just business.

Getting laid off and forced to another location is part of railroading that's been going on for years. There's probably more railroaders that's been cutoff/forced/laid off than not. I've lived out of my car while being forced out of town and now I;m nearing retirement and looking forward to collecting my railroad retirement which is a heck of a lot better than social security.
