OK, here's the "go forward and survive" T plan, for free (no need to spend tens of millions on any more consultants to incompetent T top leadership):
- dump Direct TV, for whatever you can get for it (likely $15 billion), asap, as in next week. Remove all associated headcount with it.
- take Direct TV proceeds and pay down debt with all of it
- strip off whatever can be stripped from Warner Media, in terms of lackluster profit generators, keep anything that throws out more than 15% annual profits. Remove all associated headcount with it.
- pay down more debt with any proceeds from above liquidations (won't be very much)
- unwind every outsourcing client that isn't making at least 15% annual profits when counting all transport and everything else we're selling them (if real honesty is put to this task, this will be a lot of unwinding, accompanied by headcount reductions)
- stop the offshoring, stop the outsourcing, stop the widespread FMPs every 2 or 3 months. Get the headcount pain over in 1 swoop, and move on to try to salvage any morale possible for survivors.
- Morale is k–ling this company now, see point 6 above. Low morale employees don't perform or produce at anywhere near more satisfied employees who have some level of career hope.
- Hold the dividend, but don't increase it ever again.
- Slow down the debt paydown and invest in more innovation in being global one stop shop for fiber, mobile, IoT, cloud, cybersecurity
- Get off the freaking political bandwagon and keep your mouth shut about social agenda's that have nothing to do with running a telecom network. Follow VZ's lead and don't have top exec's spouting off about issues that can only tick off some of the client base. In short, exec's should mainly shut up on broad social issues and actually run a telecom company.
- Hire even more inventors/scientists and increase R&D to pump out patents and new technologies to stay ahead of the curve and leverage the massive infrastructure T already has in place. Hire more attorneys to brutally sue anybody who crosses T patents. Step on any and all toes required for survival in the tech hunger games arena.
- Actually let more employees work remotely, indefinitely. Never reopen some admin offices. Shut down physical offices to the full extent possible, leaving only far fewer may office sites, and get out of leases as fast as can and sell off any owned office real estate, and use to pay down debt.
- Focus marketing efforts on advertising that highlights T's position as leading global telecom company, capable of doing things as a whole that competitors can only do in parts. Bring back the T girl and put her in more funny mobile phone commercials, somewhat like Flo at Progressive. Have her solving massive global telecom problems with all of Ts resources, and putting small time localized competitors to shame.
- Do anything possible to regain this firm's dignity internally and externally after the incompetent sadly pathetic and incapable top leadership that has nearly k–led it for past decade.
There, you're welcome. Go forth and prosper.
I'm sorry for stealing this from another thread, but this needed to be visible and on top after some id–tic threads we've been having lately. The OP is @2emk+19qaFrjx.
