Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Letter Bands bonuses for 2020 -

I have spoken with 2 Band D staff (director / distinguished engineer in IBM speak) who both confirmed that bonuses at a smaller % of the prior years were set to be paid soon. Apparently all letter band 'execs' were to be paid some cash for 2020 performance AND the usual stock RSU, vesting over the next four years.
No bonuses were paid to non execs in 2020, other than desperate retention payments to retain staff. To me at least, this is the core problem at IBM. Execs are rewarded for continuing incompetence, while the 'workers' are 'expected' to shut up and be happy they still have a job.
One day, soon, the board will realize the financial engineering is only real engineering in IBM and do something.

Executives can influence the overall performance of the company, yet they get bonuses based on "individual contribution"

Individual contributors can influence only their own contribution, yet they get no bonuses based on "overall performance of the company".

Somebody make sense of that for me.

Folks, we are not getting any bonuses... you guys are dreaming... We don't deserve it... We are all the culprits for the revenues going down, aka no growth.

Let's make sure we keep it that way... the sooner the revenues crash even more, the sooner AK gets the boot. Let's unified and work less, enjoy our lives!

The IBM fat lady has entered the building and is making her way to the stage. It will not be pretty when she starts to sing and falls off the stage and does a face plant in the world of a "has been".

So maybe we do get a bonus. The question is, will it be .5% or .4%. Yawn. The standing joke on raises is, if you k–l yourself and get an excellent Review, perhaps a 1.1% raise. If you're a slacker with a poor performance rating, perhaps 1%. So what's the point? Right outta Dilbert. Although most workers I know are really diligent and work hard regardless, they are realistic about their compensation expectations and job security.

This is nothing new, even when the lower ranks were getting bonuses most of the money stayed at the higher levels.. think of a river of money flowing down until it gets to the director level, then it turns into a drip and that is way flows down to the workers.

I had been told this many times over the years by friends who made it to the upper levels.

Ibm board will never realize it because the chairman of the board is ceo himself lol.

Let me say it nicely what the other poster said.

Leave ibm, start preparing. tech is the sector that has grown through covid (obviously except ibm) and they're hiring again.

Longer you stay here worse it is for your career. Execs are just milking whatevers left before retiring

Many times I exceeded my goals and Ginni failed at hers. But I get no bonus or raise while she got millions for failing. IBM is just a cash machine for execs. Employees and customers need to go somewhere else.
