Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Taking credit for someone else's work?

Sticking a knife in the back is unfortunately an integral part of Oracle’s corporate culture.

Understand, if you are doing good work, you may not be getting credit for it up the chain of command. I had two managers lie together to give a patent for my work to one of their girlfriends.
My best advice, if you are smarter than average, is to record everything that happens and be prepared to guess when you are being stabbed in the back, because no one will come and tell you or ask you anything about what happened, they will believe the lying scum that passes for management at Oracle.

Here you should always keep your eyes wide open and be a step ahead, but even the most experienced can have all the credit they deserved taken by someone else. I’m sure it hasn’t happened to you just once?

Seems to me that a "one man show" is much, much better than working with the lying scum I was working with at Oracle.

Everyone should be working on their exit strategy. There is a way out for everyone.

This:

It happens far more than it should and not just at Oracle. If it happens to you, say nothing, do nothing but leave at your first viable opportunity. If you see it happens to somebody else, again, say nothing, do nothing but leave at your first viable opportunity.

is quite true. But, I think the original poster's point (the quote in OP's post), is that you may not know this has been done to you. After all, they aren't going to tell you, are they? It can take time to realize who you are actually working with.

This:

We work for a company. We all are paid, in part, on someone else’s work. If you don’t like it, then create your own one man show!

is too stupid to let pass.

The OP is obviously talking about a patent, which involves a monetary reward for the people involved. Stealing that is theft, pure and simple. Plus, the bonus of having your name on the patent, even if Oracle owns the rights. You can still put it on your resume, etc. When you steal something like that, you are scum, no doubt about it.

If you see it happens to somebody else, again, say nothing, do nothing but leave at your first viable opportunity. Saying anything will only get YOU in trouble and doing anything about it will be worse. Frauds are particularly vicious when threatened and the best and only action is to get out. Remember, it was YOUR idea, YOUR vision and chances are you will have more ideas and vision whereas they will have nothing.

I don’t think he’s lying at all. I had work stolen by two managers who together couldn’t put a condom on. The managers are oracle are complete slobs.
