Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Are they aware of need for change?

The culture needs to change. I believe there are a lot of good people working there who want to do the right thing. It is easy to align with noble values and create a purpose that goes beyond a paycheck. It gives meaning to the work and before you know it, you are swimming up stream. It can start with overlooking small things like conflicting priorities, and then the oversights become bigger and impacts your values. Most people enjoy their work, give their best effort, learn, grow, overcome obstacles and make things work. That does not happen by chance.
Before one realizes they are caught up in the culture and all the smoke and mirrors. Leaders lose their voice and may go along with the program for fear of losing their job. Self interest, career, politics, need, family, and yes.... money all play a part in it. Failure to speak up when something does not sit well, inability to see and point out behavior that does not align, and thinking that it can’t happen to them until it does. There is a lot of theatrics, buzz words, and concepts to promote the need for change that loose their chandelier. True change starts from the top. That would require an awareness for a need to change - that is not going to happen. Behavior speaks louder than words, and people who have been around enough to see it can push through it to get things done while staying true to their values. It’s all about $$$$

Great post from thread +1a0rTm49. Unfortunately, I think those at the top are unaware of the need for change.

Under the TW approach there as not been any independent thinking from management at any level for decades. Yes, decades. He realized early on that management was in it for the paycheck and would not do anything to jeopardize it. Therefore, there was no dissent. People went along with the program hoping upon hope that it would never truly affect them. They watched people that were long term solid performers get laid off under some guise, when it was actually age discrimination. He continued to get bolder and bolder in his approach to cull the herd from older employees that, in his opinion, are a burden to the profitability of the NYSE, (ALL). His latest move is to relieve himself of that terrible burden to profitability the American worker. Great job TW, if only he could relieve himself from his position and replace it with some AI. We would all be happier.

They know but they don't care. To change things for the better of the customers and employees might just incur an expense of some sort and Lord knows we can't have that. It might just reduce Tom and Glenn's blood money bonuses a few bucks.
