I got laid off 2 years ago. Thought I would have no problem getting a new job. I live in a major city known for its IT opportunities. I was a high achiever in sales and I knew a lot of people. It still took me 6 months to find the job I am now in. Many companies showed no interest. Maybe I didn't sell myself well, maybe they didn't like my IBM history., maybe the job market isn't strong, maybe they preferred to hire younger folk. However I believed in myself, and now one of the top performers in my new company
Moral of this is to take nothing for granted, plan for the worst and hope for the best. Reach out and leverage every contact you have. Do it now while you have a paycheck, and don't wait for IBM to control your destiny. IBM is telling you something - whether you are on the RA list or not. Open your eyes to reality. No sympathy for anyone sitting back and faking shock at the end result.

I have been working with the career company since I got laid off in February. It is absolutely essential to update your LinkedIn. Outside everything is handled through LinkedIn. Even though you will get the resource if you are laid off, it’s almost always imperative to stay current there and update it now.

Nobody should feel safe at all at IBM. If you decide to stay to bide your time (as I am doing) then take advantage of any free training you can take, upgrade your resume, and try to get as financially prepared as possible. Im trying to sock $ away for an emergency fund as much as I can to get myself past the initial garbage package this garbage company will give me. Here in the US, since we have a POTUS who is as useless as IBMs CEO, we can expect inflation and CoL to skyrocket because you cannot tax and spend your way into prosperity.

I heard some people saying they were top performer and even some got appreciation letters but still RAed after few weeks or months. Therefore until ibm2newco transition is complete, i will not feel safe even if i receive all different kind of notifications and offer etc. what will happen to us in newco, thats different story for another day.
Keep searching and make a move when find your ideal job.

Posted this in another thread:

What if you didn't get one? How do you then know if you are staying with IBM proper, or out on the street? I guess you are kept waiting. Or did everyone get the welcome package, to keep everyone guessing and waiting? The net result is no change other than perhaps more anxiety?
Hmmm

No mention in the email of terms & conditions. We will get a formal offer in the next couple of months apparently.
