Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Where Should Transformco Open Up New Kmart & Sears Stores?

If you are Transformoco and had the job of choosing new store locations, where should they be? We got three great Home & Life Sears stores, when do you think we can expect new Kmarts & where? Eddie didn't give up on this company, we shouldn't either.

Where should new stores be located? When do you think we can expect new stores?

I think Eddie should expand Kmart and Sears to other countries & territories. Kmart Japan. Sears Iceland. Kmart U.K. Sears Brazil!

Mars. There's no competition there, and it'll probably cost less to ship merchandise to Mars than it is to remaining stores now!

You’re absolutely right. I went to rally around Sears today for a new vacuum cleaner. Drove 75 miles. They didn’t have much variety. In fact, they didn’t have any vacuums left in stock at all. I figured why waste the trip, so I decided to pick up new lawn mower blades and a belt for my Craftsman mower. Alas, they had no stock on those either. Last was a cordless drill for that project the wife keeps nagging me about. Not only did they not have any cordless drills, they didn’t have any drills of any type. I didn’t give up through. I headed 50 miles in the other direction to a KMart. Needed new sleeping bags for this weekend’s trip and a baseball glove for my son. Little League is starting up again with vaccinations in full swing. I was so upset that they must have “just sold out the last ones” right before I got there.
Later that day, after I got back to my hometown, I felt privileged and dirty standing in a Walmart taking so much time to decide which, glove and sleeping bags to buy. I felt even worse at Lowe’s, right down the street. And 5 minutes later, after arriving home, I couldn’t stand the guilt picking out some household supplies that will be delivered by Amazon tomorrow (Sunday).

Everywhere. Eddie should open them everywhere. It's proven that if Eddie spends $100M on retail or real estate, he'll wind up losing $300M. That's $300M that could go into the pockets of workers, SYWR members, construction workers, contractors, and everywhere else, and the banks and lenders can make a nice profit on all the interest he spends, until he goes broke out of lack of cash.

The time to “rally” around Kmart & Sears was decades ago. There are fewer then 60-70 corporate stores under both banners combined, spread out over a handful of states and Territories. If I wanted to go to a Sears FLS I would need to travel 150 miles one way and a Kmart I would need to travel 600 miles one way. Approximately 3 years ago I had 5 Sears FLS & 4 Kmarts within a 15 mile radius. How the he-l am I supposed to support a company that I can’t reasonably visit in person and who has absolutely nothing to choose from online. What a joke. If they wanted to actually run a company people might have rallied around them, yet here we are, the end of a brand that never had to die, but was instead greedily pushed to the brink of extinction.

So much negativity. Why can't some of you all be more positive. So by saying let Kmart and Sears fade away in existance you are saying lets let Wal-Mart and Amazon win. So who will give those two companies a run for their money? Kmart and Sears are our best shot at that. Rally our support behind two American Icons so we have some variety to fill our shopping needs!

Kmart already tried stores in Canada, Mexico, Eastern Europe, Australia & New Zealand. Kmart cooperation exited all of those markets and sold its last remaining shares in the Australia/ New Zealand business in 1994. Kmart Australia continued to pay SHC for the Kmart name rights until 2017 when it purchased the right to use the name in perpetuity in Australia & New Zealand for $100 million. The Eastern European stores were former co------t department stores that Kmart bought with hopes of entering the new market after communism collapsed. The stores were a massive drain on resources and the market was abandoned fairly quickly.

Customers are not shopping at Sears and KMart anymore.....thus the mass closing of stores.

What is the point of opening new stores that nobody will shop at?

Its like putting lipstick on a pig.

A lot less store closing jobs posted as of today. Maybe they are considering closing less and opening more!

I trust that Edward is doing the right thing. He will turn this ship around. Have faith everyone.

Kmart Japan sounds like an excellent idea. I also think Kmart India would be outstanding.

Give me a break! If EL had any interest in Kmart or Sears, or retail in general, he would have been opening new stores and remodeling the older ones the whole time he owned them. The only time they refreshed a store it was a low-budget or no-budget attempt. A coat of paint, a few new signs. He has systematically liquidated both chains. Soon there will be nothing left. He made Kmart and Sears both broken brands, beyond repair.

Sears should have cheerleaders as people greeters for each of their stores! That is a brilliant idea!

The Home & Life stores you reference were another botched attempt of Eddie’s to open successful smaller stores prior to his purchase of the Hometowns. Rest assured, you won’t be seeing any future H&L openings. That ship has sailed.

The three Home & Life stores are in Overland Park, Kansas; Anchorage, Alaska; and Lafayette, Louisiana. They opened in 2019. Perhaps they are successful, but if so, why hasn't Sears opened more of them?
