Why is Beaumont locking out their "essential" personnel?

That’s a pretty naive question if we’re being honest here. The CBA expired, they couldn’t get a new negotiated agreement in place before the deadline, and they had their MPT people train up on backfilling those jobs for the next couple weeks. This allows them to have competent, trained employees in place to run the plant when they call the lockout instead of having the union call a strike and they get caught with their pants down. I hate this place as much as the next guy, but come on, this is standard.
Energy industry is an essential industry, the workers that work for an essential industry are considered essential. The janitors, admins, engineers, managers, etc that work for an energy company is also essential.
Those that are locked out are essential by convention only. Readily replaced apparently. As an engineer with the specter of layoffs looming over my head this last year and more to come, no sympathy for these fu----s keeping on pressing for more and more. Many of whom I've probably worked with and some of which are lazy fu--s.
Cause the union leaders wouldn't take any of their offers to a vote with the members. You can't ratify a contract without a vote.
