OK Listen, this whole thing has been a roller coaster and a few weeks ago I was pretty miserable about it all, but now that things are settling and I'm getting to meet some new folks from the combined company I am really optimistic AND as a legacy husky person, the Cenovus culture as I am experiencing it seems pretty awesome. The people I've met are have been smart, open, friendly and authentic and actually effective and interested in getting things done and getting them done right. It feels way less bureaucratic and fear-driven, people seem to actually have fun and like each other here and aren't afraid to show up like that in meetings. I was so sick of all the posturing and politicking, and maybe I'm just getting really lucky with the people I've been coming across, including my new executive, but I'm pretty sure there's more good to be had here than bad.
There are also things we never had in our legacy company, little things that maybe seems arbitrary to some, but clothes and gifts and lunches for field staff, and acknowledging mental health with actual seriousness are really meaningful. Some of us are down to single income since Covid and supporting full families as well as extended family members and little things like this mean a lot. I would never buy myself a new jacket in the current times, and I had two years at Husky where we didn't get bonuses because of the economy. It probably seems d-mb to a lot of you but for some of us these things cost money and it's something to be appreciated. And I have not met one person that was anything less than smart, helpful and effective. I know it's hard times but honest to goodness there is more good than bad right now in this company. My own job is fulfilling, challenging and fun, my field staff feels appreciated and actually acknowledged, and I am meeting pretty awesome people. Once this stupid pandemic is resolved and we can sit down and have some beers together in person and recalibrate it will all be a lot better, but in the meantime we can all afford to shift the lens to the good.

Then why bring over the same disaster management team that was at Husky and subject us to the same losers. I sure as he-l never asked to work for Husky and their management team clearly was incompetent. So of course Drew and crowd bring them on over.

For sure...I was feeling completely miserable about the whole thing, but I think the last few weeks with the more people I meet and the nice things that the company is trying to do (you have no idea how frugal husky was unless it was for swap for the mega project that almost bankrupted the company) I'm basically yelling "Oh Yeah!" and smashing through walls with my pitcher of Kool-Aid.
If I can choose to view things from the lens of kool-aid or curdled milk. I'm going to take the kool-aid.
