Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

Can you be satisfied with just having a job here?

Many times I hear the phrase that I should be happy to have a job at all when I complain about the situation I am in at AIG. That phrase is very comforting.
No, on the contrary, I don’t think anyone should be happy to just have a job here. This makes people apathetic and not looking for anything better for themselves. It allows you to feel miserable for a while longer, just for the sake of this company's interests.

Leave if you think you’ll get better career advancement otherwise.

Who knows, maybe you’ll be replaced by a computer program, if not someone making half your salary and doing more than half your work.

People notice. Someone may notice your doing nothing and decide not to hire you when they, and you, move to another company.

I’m not trying to cast too many stones, but just because you believe people are stealing doesn’t give you a reason to steal.

Also: Blatantly advising people to moonlight, is for sure unethical, while you are pointing to things that clearly some people feel are unethical, maybe even a lot, but apparently not enough to get anyone in trouble. Or someone would have sued by now.

Paying CEOs astronomical bonuses and stock options, buying their failing companies for millions of dollars and then running them off under the AIG umbrella isn't stealing? BD got a CEO to employee pay ratio of 287:1 for 4 years and walked off with hundreds of millions of dollars. He produced no results. He is still getting paid to be on the board of no results. Don't talk to me about stealing. The CEOs in this company don't just steal, they rob the bank that is AIG.

No you shouldn’t just be told to be happy to have a job- that may be something you decide on your own but your employer shouldn’t be the one to tell you that. And you shouldn’t be working part time on a full time salary. That’s stealing from your customers.

Listen, this is a money grab from the top down. AIG has a generous 401k match plus 3%(not from these bozos) and good benefits. Use this to your advantage. Do not quit, milk this for every penny you can just like PZ and crew are doing. It may not equal millions like those clowns, but it isn't a bad gig if you do it right and work virtual.

Funny, this phrase was heavily used during the pandemic by my management. It is a great intimidation phrase. Now that markets are opening up, I don't hear it much anymore.

The prior post is 100% correct. Part time = full time pay. Collect your pay and benefits while bettering yourself for another company because this gravy train won't last forever.

Am I happy to have a job? Yes. Am I “satisfied”? Not even close. I’m at peace working in a dump, with no career advancement and a ridiculous “bonus” system that ensures you actually make LESS money each year when you account for inflation. The upside is doing 40-50 minutes of actual work, while only having to keep myself logged in and responding to “URGENT” emails and calls that pop up the rest of the day.
