All kinds of things could be said about this company, that it is managed by incompetent people without vision, that they do not care about employees at all, etc. however, I am very worried about my job. I wouldn’t be if I didn’t have to pay the bills or if I managed to find some new option by now. I don’t understand those who say they don’t care at all if they get laid off.

Its better to make less now and live beyond retirement age vs. dealing with this outfit holding out for railroad retirement and keeling over dead at 61.
bottom line its all a tu-d sandwich, you just got to find the one with a little mustard on it.
If you are worried about being laid off, now is the time to develop a backup plan, update your resume and put it on the job sites like Monster and Linked In. You might be surprised what other opportunities are available. Thanks to the railroads shooting themselves in the foot all because of greed, the railroads are no longer the place to work. I personally know several employees who were laid off that have found better paying jobs outside the railroad.
That has always been the way of the railroad! Years ago layoffs were a very frequent event yet over the last twenty years or so they became infrequent because of a smaller workforce, etc. Until the PSR came along, that is.
It is understandable to have concerns over what they may do tomorrow , next week or next month but that shouldn't be what controls your life. Unless you can walk down to Atlanta and direct their paths in running the company. If you can't do that then you have or make a plan to move along if they do lay you off. There are quite a few folks out there who do not work for the railroad if you have noticed!
You can make it on much less. Your just gonna have to simplify your life as bad as it sucks and make some sacrifices.
You need a diary!
