Thread regarding IBM layoffs

The new IBM

With all the layoffs and restructurings, working at IBM has turned into having to stay late all the time because you got saddled with the work of your many colleagues who were laid off or left for no extra pay. You are doing all of this while your borderline abusive manager constantly tells you to be lucky to have a job "at your age" while never giving you any recognition for the good work you're doing. How is anybody shocked that the attrition is increasing?

  • or maybe you're just not very good at your job? I consistently get top rated, my manager is pleading with me to stay instead of retire mid-year, and frankly I struggle to fill the hours between 9 and 5. The only time I work late is to be courteous to somebody in a remote time zone.

It's funny, we all agree that there is a lot of deadwood in IBM, but a lot of people posting here don't seem to realize that they are self-identifying.

Quit whining OP. If you don’t like it, do your part and add to the attrition rate. At least you can make that contribution to the company.

Seen managers like this in the CIC. Horrible human beings to be sure.
Take action immediately if they are abusive or assigning work out of scope.
