Thread regarding Crown Castle International Corp. layoffs

Jay and the EMT panicked

Last fall hundreds of employees were let go because the company was called out by Elliot Management for not meeting expectations. Not only did they lose these employees but they also lost a good amount of employees who fled to other companies such as Fiber Light. When Crown was called out the EMT panicked. They showed how inexperienced and fragile they are. They made rash decisions because they had no idea how to handle the situation. Quite frankly, its a bit scary to still have this team in charge. You never know the real capabilities of management when things are going good, sadly you find out when things are shaken up. Just about anybody could lead through good times but the second it got just a little bit tough they panicked and their inexperience showed.

It was not performance related at all, as someone who had to make cuts personally, we were given a number and told to give names. Period. Anyone who you think was released and was good at their job, apparently someone in their reporting chain disagreed, or simply didn't like them.

It seemed to be very targeted lay off that had nothing to do with performance what so ever. Many of the people in the west that were let go were original NextG people. There is only a select few scattered around the country now. The company Crown bought because they wanted to have the upper hand on DAS, Fiber and small cells and they let people that built those networks go. The experience and knowledge they lost was irreplaceable.

Agreed, anybody that thinks the layoffs that happened in the fall were performance based has no idea what is going on in this company. As a company we lost a lot of very good employees for no particular reason at all.

In response to the comment that some should have been fired years ago, that was not my experience in my market. As an example, Crown released an exemplary CM that was one of two CMs working together to save the company over $1 million in 2019 alone. There is also the exceptional PM that successfully trained every new PM in that district for the last three years. I also recall the PGM that consistently hit every goal and built a high functioning team in a challenging market. The more I think about it the more examples I can recall. I just want to make sure that it is understood that the reduction in force was NOT performance related.

I'm with you, given the fact that Crown is hiring a lot right now to keep up with 5G they could have obviously transfered those employees to these new positions. Clearly they were making rash decisions because they had no idea what to do.
