Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

What helped you the most to find a new job?

Experience, skills, persistence and number of applications sent, willingness to change industry, connections, relocation...?
I’m glad to see posts where many are announcing a large departure of people from the company, because that generally means they’ve found something better. At the same time, it depresses me because I haven't been able to find a new job for months now. I’ve tried everything, but it looks like I’m going to have to get a job in another industry and relocate.

Job opportunities in Calgary are very limited now. Maybe better in big cities like Vancouver and Toronto. Overall, Canadian economy is recovering very very slowly. If you have connections, you will get a job for sure.

American economy is definitely recovering faster. In the worst case that you don’t find any job in Canada, try in the USA.

I am sorry that you haven't landed something yet. I secured mine through industry connections - but prior to that, I was using willingness to change industry, location and take a pay cut to get to the offer stage. I'm not sure of your field but if you are in something portable, there are more opportunities outside of Calgary. Good luck!
