Defined benefit retirement plans are much better. I have two defined-benefit pensions from previous employers, which provide a monthly payment for the rest of my life. I knew Ascension’s defined-contribution plan was practically worthless to ordinary workers — defined contribution plans favor the politically-connected upper income earners within an organization — when I accepted my first position with Ascension and that proved to be true when my position was casually eliminated. So pleased to not be working for Ascension any longer. I was treated like I didn’t exist when I arrived and when I was let go. End the taxpayer subsidies for Ascension and all other so-called “religious-sponsored charities.” These are fraudulent tools of Wall Street designed to keep Americans “poor and vulnerable.”

Update, I have been provided no explanation thus far, but the monthly benefit has increased to the original amount after my inquiry using the toll free number. I still do not know if the lump sum amount is correct, I am still waiting for a reply to my request for all account activity since January 1, 2013. Yet to be determined

"The settlement affords participants key ERISA protections for [only] the next seven and a half years (commencing January 1, 2015 through June 30, 2022)."
