So, here is the reason Lowes' uses 3rd party. Liability and profitability. Corporate knows the real money is being made by the product sale, not by the delivery service fulfillment. Installation you can monetize a bit more because of the skill level involved (but still want the liability defrayment), but most deliveries are pretty basic and therefore extremely competitively priced across the industry.

It makes a tremendous amount of sense to offload the infrastructure and the management costs of managing the labor and equipment to a third party, keeping the profit from the sale intact even if the delivery truck runs off a bridge somewhere.

It obviously works because the stock price has reflected the increase in earnings.

Fair enough. Then why did they do away with the ‘delivery dept mgr’ position and then resurrect it under a new name(delivery coordinator)?

It says in the delivery coordinator’s job description that they are the ones responsible for calling on install deliveries and having product staged and ready for pickup.

“Third party delivery left windows for an install at the outta rear of the house visible to the street (3 weeks) before the install. Customer was pi---d!
They had to go back and pick-up and re-deliver on install day. Imagine the man hours and margin lost! This company does not care anymore!“

3rd party has a lot of issues but This was really the stores fault though. They don’t schedule the deliveries or know when or even if something is for an install without store notification. The real issue was that neither the Back end sup, delivery coordinator or PSE confirmed the install date.

I dread having to tell each of my refrigerator purchasing customers that if their water shutoff isn't behind the frig that they will have to do their own water cutoff/reconnect. Add to that a fair amount of the crews in my area don't even speak English. Makes Lowe's look like totally incompetent fools and sadly that is the last impression we are making on our customers. Don't want to identify the 3rd party company we are using but both Home Depot and Best Buy dropped them in my area. Our competitors are probably laughing their back sides off.

Can't get rid of 3rd party, that's where most of Lowe's diversity comes from

Don’t even bother! They won’t listen to you. Third party delivery left windows for an install at the outta rear of the house visible to the street (3 weeks) before the install. Customer was pi---d!

You obviously aren't breathing the same filtered air that corporate is breathing.
