There was a time when the name “Nordstrom” commanded respect and prestige. We were competitive to stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy’s, Neiman Marcus and many others. Then we started on a downhill slide made worse by the pandemic. Now I think we are at very bottom of that list. Sad.

We are always competing….ineffectively!
Saks giving you some stiff competition

They've been using vendor images for a few years, but have really stepped it up more recently. They save a lot of money on initial photography and then send everything to India for final processing for the website.
I love it when they cut the head off at the neck -- looks great!
Just visited the web store, noticed a few styles — clothes — that used vendor images. I thought Nordstrom only used their own photos. Is this a recent change?
Not try to defend nordstrom but it offers better selection of shoes than macys. Nordstrom price point can be reasonable. I only shop shoes at nordy. Sales people in shoes are nicer compare to other department, womens/ mens clothing.
We need more Kardashian gear to compete effectively.
Orvis actually has some decent old preppy clothes. REI must sell more clothes than outdoor equipment. I guess Nordstrom has clothes, too. Why would I shop there, to buy a suit? Those can be found elsewhere. Online services will tailor a suit from scratch to your specifications.
Example. Nordstrom carries a few leather jackets from the label Schott NYC each year. Nice jackets, not cheap, well made. Why bother with Nordstrom’s selection when Schott has their full product catalog online?
Nordstrom carries a subset of many larger such brands. Is there value in them bringing it all into a single physical space? Digital space?
Do these brands care much about Nordstrom these days, or do they get a fatter margin if they sell directly to the customer? Is the digital outfits feature I have noticed on the web site/store the answer?
The Nordstrom mens department has never appealed to me all that much. Why would I go there now?
Nordstrom customers are becoming hiking flyfishermen?
Macy’s is actually looking better than Nordstrom lately. Have a friend that does visual there.
Nordstrom started going downhill 5 years ago. Just walk in the stores now
I want to test your theory, but the nearest Neiman's is in California. Same with Saks.

Saks Fifth Avenue is in Tulsa and Birmingham and St Louis -- but not Seattle?
And only grubby proles shop at Macy's. Lately, I find myself ordering clothes and shoes directly from the manufacturer, a discounter such as Sierra Trading Post ($TJX), or a boutique like Orvis.
I used to buy all my clothes from Nordstrom, but I haven't purchased anything since some panic-discounted shoes in spring of 2020. REI gets more of my "rag trade" today.
