Unfortunately the guy who gathered and distributed competitive information was let go, I gather under the assumption that the competition will be easier to beat if we know less about them.
Instead, the source has gone to work for the competition, still doing the same job, I guess.

About whom are you speaking? I just checked under "Connections" (Formerly known as "Aria") and the competitive group for my business area are still intact. Initials would be sufficient for proof that you have real knowledge.
No there is (or has been) a whole department in corporate marketing who did competitive intelligence. Until about a year or so ago, it was headed up for many years by Athena Yeung.
So there was only one guy at Oracle who researches all competitors for all products?
