When it comes to hiring people, I wonder how selective is NS nowadays? It seems to me that the company doesn’t care much about the people it employs at all, I was recently surprised when a friend’s son didn’t get a job here even though he deserves the job much more than those hired. Their selection process is not clear to me at all.

The son needs to consider himself blessed not to be hired . The pay may be good but you will be spending your whole career watching out for the kn..e being aimed at your back. When they go to one person crews , and it will come just a matter of when. Stay away from class 1 railroads.
I noticed that a lot of it had to do with interviewers at hiring session. Terminal Superintendent was doing our our interviews and it was a matter of saying the stuff he wanted to hear mainly. Talk about how safe a worker you are and wilingness to work on call all days of week. Veteran is a plus. Youll nail it like I did first shot.
He is lucky he didn’t get hired!!
If he's a yes man bawl li—r then he shouldn't have a problem getting hired
Management will hire there best pole smokers relative or friend before someone that can do the job.
NS like many companies these days don't care about experience or hiring the better candidate. It's nothing but diversity. They don't care.
Took me a year and a half to get hired in mechanical. Had extensive background in maintenance. Yet I saw guys with no mechanical background, or ability to learn it, hired before me. This company is like congress. The more useless you are the higher you go.
Forget it. Unless you want to get furloughed in the near future don’t bother trying to get on. h–lyou may not even make it to get marked up. They did it a couple years back to a bunch of people by letting them go just before they finished training...and some were still down at the school! The industry as a whole is very unstable right now from a labor standpoint and the foreseeable future appears grim. Just stay away.
A little Debbie delivery requires more skills than a conductor
Haha there is no requirements. I’ve seen a guy get hired in 08 that was a little Debbie delivery driver 😂
