Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Hate all around

There's so much hate for the company here. I'm curious if Cenovus was always this hated by its employees or is this a new development due to the latest layoffs? I haven't noticed anything like this before, but I'll admit to not being that observant. I personally don't care one way or another, for as long as they continue to pay me for what I do, I'm good.

Oh come on, who actually believed the 20/20 program made sense to retain post-merger. I’m surprised that people with such bad attitudes haven’t been skidded already. Anyways, I’m making bank, I work for my vacation and could not care less about all this whining but it is fun to read. GLTA.

I don’t think it’s hate more just a complete and utter lack of trust in management and Alex. No one hates them per say. I think they are a bunch of hypocrites and liars but I don’t hate them.

This is your management and or HR rep speaking in the last post. It’s how they react, let’s not look at if there’s a problem with us as leaders let’s blame the employees past and present. It just can’t be us magnificent leaders I mean look at us, even Alex’s culture review says we are great. I mean just ask us.

This is why Cenovus will never recover culture wise. Our management has no capability to even consider themselves as part of the problem. Here’s a hint: if you are enriching yourselves while hurting others you’re part of the problem.

It’s made me wealthy. I love it here. 11 years. More money than I’m worth. Great benefits. So much time off. Dream job.

6600 employees. About 150 losers that post here. 140 of them who don’t have jobs. My two cents.

It's true. Alex lied. Every one of the worker bees were fine with the 10% wage roll back to help the company and keep everyone employed, an example of truly working together and looking out for each other. Instead of asking employees what they were willing to do, they gave us back our wages while negotiating with husky and then ruined 2100 people's livelihoods, but the CLT got their wages back. Disgusting...

Employees used to be proud to work at Cenovus, I sure was. We were the place to work. Then the layoffs started, sometimes twice a year nonstop up to round nine or ten. At the same time there were VP promotions and added layers to the executive. We got laid off they got promotions and raises. For years this went on. People got bitter at this do what we say not what we do attitude. The Conoco deal was so bad and the executive punished anyone who dared say anything about it even though they all knew it was a bad one.

Brian got the boot and Alex came in and most employees thought things were turning around. Alex was a breath of fresh air and promised no more layoffs, after his first round of layoffs.

Then he lied to us. He kept telling us no more layoffs while he was negotiating this deal knowing full well there would be layoffs. The he lied about the $30M in retention bonuses that management would get for the Husky deal while once again we get laid off during the worst pandemic / job market in our lifetimes. Meanwhile we get to hear how hard it is for them to make these decisions. I don’t know, after 8 or so years of it I would think they’re getting pretty good at it.

At any rate that’s my thoughts on it. For me it was the sheer mental abuse of being told to sit in my office every year time and time again waiting to find out if I still have a job to pay my mortgage or not.

And I get about instability and the oil patch that’s fine, but NO OTHER COMPANY has had this many layoffs in the patch ever for so long. So it’s–twhining when it comes to an incompetent executive that has no other tool than layoff after layoff after layoff. No one will ever trust Alex again. He lied and he knows it.

Not really a new development.

Started with ra–ywho had no clue about the oil business, and then a step change from then on with every new exec that rolled in.

Thought things would improve with Alex, but he is a sociopath just like the rest of them, lining his pockets, those of his family, and those he thinks he needs.

Many still see CVE through rose coloured glasses, but those are the ones who have been treated well. They seem oblivious to how others around them are faring.

Ones not doing well are dwelling on the nonsense, they should leave because this place is toxic

Its a new development and is justly earned. The terminations, cancelling of 20 /20, and never ending lies have earned them it all.

This company can rot.
