Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

The threat of layoffs is not motivation.

All my manager does is threaten us that there will be layoffs and that our team will be on the layoff radar if we don’t make our numbers. We are not children and we don’t need to be reminded that times are hard and that layoffs are an everyday occurrence. While we all know the situation I don’t think that my manager has any real info that we could be impacted and that he just thinks that by mentioning this he is motivating us to push harder. Stressed out and scared employees are not good employees, period.

Always remember no matter how well you do or what you do it will not matter. They will rif you, close your site down no matter it’s coming. I’ve been with the company for 25 years and all we have heard is we are a froth site and better things are coming if we keep chasing the carrot. Guess what they are shutting our site down months after spewing all the lies up to the last moment.

Fear only works if leadership behavior is reinforced by improved results. Never let them see you squirm.

Some managers see bad things coming but cannot speak, because someone among their crew will always tell a buddy in exchange for rumor meat. Thus, the only tool left to warn the crew is the constant reminder that layoffs are a risk, in hopes that performance picks up and makes rifs harder to justify for their crew.

Fear works for long enough that your manager can move on...

One of my best bosses used to be the biggest back stabbing a-h–etill he realized he'd get more out of everybody by backing them up and helping them. Many years ago back in the "Good ol Days"

Fear is the number one specialty for first level management in Honeywell Aero. You take this away, you really limit their managerial abilities.

Also, keep in mind that lower management are treated like little kids too. If you want the respect of your title, become a VP or go to another company/division.

I would watch the world burn if I could be king of the ashes.

Fear does not make for lasting peace and drives numbness with lower care factor, this is all they have left and that too will fail spectacularly, woe to this mediocre leadership
