Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Dog eat dog culture

If I had known Verizon had such a strong dog eat dog culture I'd have never joined. I know every place has some competitiveness between employees but this one takes the cake. I've never seen so many people so eager to push others under the bus if an opportunity presents itself or jump to take credit for something they didn't do. Was it always like this or is this a new development?

Always been like this, has gotten worse as time goes on, and the company hires college kids. Rui Dossantos was the worst in Westchester NY for having to be number one. Would give all his guys the easy work, while screwing the other managers and workers. Fortunately, security escorted him off property for his wrongdoing.

Always been like this, managers play favoritism. I submitted the same type of report as other employees and still get complained at while others are praised. There are many damned if you do, damned if you don't situations.

a dog eat dog environment on a level playing field would be a huge improvement over how things now work at vz, management promotions over the past 50 years would look a lot differently were fairness part of the vz equation, instead you have a nepotistic system in my experience where the manager hires someone off the street then holds their hand to promotionville, meanwhile the real work and best ideas come from the stiffs who are lucky to get their proper sip bonus

Worse over time. Far more people root for your failure than your success. It's sick. Reflection of the garbage leadership we have.

Since 2006, the annual RIFs (some years 2+ RIFs) has created the dog eat dog culture. It got even worse when the divisiveness in the world surfaced in the last several years. As a result it's all about me and hopefully the grim reaper won't be calling on the worse day of the week Thursday morning.
