How much time do we spend on ranking? How much value does it create vs focusing on base business? HR continues to add more and more complexity. Now there is training for ranking, group goal setting, individual goal setting, skill assessing, on and on and on and on. The hours spent must be immense.

@slg that is funny story and believable. After 50 most employees drift down in the rankings and hardly discussed. As long as we keep working no one will invest much time reviewing "Performance", until its PIP time.
Should be a real zoo in Annandale this year. Running out of employees to rank, no one is safe, tick, tick, when will we see the grand reveal, site just can’t survive , brace yourself......NJRSC was small potatoes in big picture , Dr. Syrup wake-up
System was never intended for critical, objective performance review with the results being used for development planning, career planning or anything else. Sr management and HR take a subjective view of who is who and where they should be and the system simply provides data and legal protection to support their views already in play Nothing wrong with management subjectivity, its should be what they're paid for. FLS and SLS just data collectors and crowd control in the process. Play along, be happy. Enjoy your work
There was an XOM employee that knew their career had plateaued who Xeroxed verbatim his career development accomplishments for ten years before he retired. Not one of his supervisors over the ten year period picked up on the fact that he used the same form for ten years.
Goes to show you that supervisors seldom compare an employees accomplishments from one year to the next. You would have thought the employee would have been NSI material for copying verbatim the same accomplishments for two or three years let alone ten years.
It's just more documentation that can be manipulated to justify on paper why a supervisor or manager can cut an employee that did not kiss their @$$
Waste of time? What do you think that management does the rest of the time? This is the sole reason we have layers and layers of management in this company! They nerd this process to feel useful each year and brag what their team did for them (or you know, take credit for enabling the teams success)
The whole process is a joke, unfair and subjective. It can be manipulated to have the outcome they want.
Hey now, those poor managers and "ELT" members who don't get a company-sponsored junket to a GBC location to conduct rank meetings really deserve our pity. Can you imagine the mental anguish they must be suffering by having rank meetings at the campus vs jetsetting business class to some exotic location?
