Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Finding comfort in thinking that layoff is the best thing that has happened to me

When people ask me about getting laid off, I usually say that I could hardly wait to be laid off and that I will finally get some relief. However, I basically feel devastated and very angry at this company.
Was it really necessary to lay off so many people? Weren't there ways to save some jobs? Why were some of those who worked hardest laid off? I despise this company.

Totally understandable to be angry. But take the comments here to heart. The process had nothing to do with merit or advancing any effort to change the culture to something less bureaucratic. These are just nice words the CEO had to use out of the gate to make us think change was going to happen. Yet the same self serving vacuous paper pushers are still in charge. Like keeps like. Maybe AP should give his people a skills test to see if they are qualified for their jobs.

But whether you are there or not the CLT still gets stumped, hires consultants and strikes committees to find the bathroom. It's the worst combination of the PanCanadian culture and the pipeline culture AP and his cronies brought with them. You're not alone in being angry. Just know your talent and time deserves more respect than Cenovus is capable of offering.

Don't beat yourself up over it your manager probably felt threatened by you thought the lay off would save there skin , it will in the short term but eventually all this a-s kissing going on in the office will end once they realize all there spread sheets of fhck all and meetings don't pay the bills , too bad for us that we're laid off won't see those pricks get fired

You have every right to be upset. I know firsthand people that were discarded who had no workplace or disciplinary issues. Business need my a-s.

It's very sad.

Your feelings are natural and to be expected. You have to mourn your loss and then move on. There is some relief to be done but also a sense of rejection because of the lack of control you had. The process was made even worse with the AP attempt to provide "principles" that were violated almost immediately and eventually completely ignored by the people making the exit decisions. I sincerely hope karma comes around for certain individuals and that there is something better around the corner for all who suffered in the process! Good luck to you and never feel you are alone as you work through your grief and anger!

They had to find money for their $30M of retention bonuses for management. Think about that one. How many people had to be laid off to make room for that amount of money. And now they tell us to find hundreds of millions in savings and maybe just maybe they will give you a carrot with this new program which after taxes in three years you might get $7 - $10k. Maybe. They of course will get at least double that with their bloated salaries.

Honestly don’t waste your energy thinking about it. The company is a cesspool. The only people left are either b–t kissers or workers that are doing the job of three people and will be sucked dry from the mind games and fake sociopathic calculating managers that can’t find a job anywhere else because they have zero skills. They have managed to prove their loyalty to the top layer of management fu—s which is why they are still employed all the while watching their back nervously worrying that people will find out how incompetent they really are. Move on and focus on your health. You no doubt have ptsd from working for that $&$@ company. It’s over. That’s all you need focus on.
