This explanation is unpopular – politically incorrect, if you will – and, as such, will undoubtedly get “thumbs down” ratings.

I understand that sentiment.

But let's face it – Vicki was chosen primarily on the basis on gender.

The BOD wanted to demonstrate something – OXY is diversified, inclusive, “woke,” etc., or whatever your adjective of choice.

Vicki was just NOT a good choice to lead the company at the highest level. She is not CEO material.

It's that simple.

Had she only carried on running the company as Steve Chazen was finally able to get focused after Dr. Irani – the famous Dr, Irani – departed, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

The best person for the job is the best person for the job – gender, background (degree/discipline), internal, external . . . no matter.

Vicki certainly wasn't that person. The stock performance has borne that out.

That's just the way it is.

And – in today's world – that's uncomfortable and takes some ba––s to outwardly admit. Especially if you are a Wall Street analyst/firm.

Who wants to open themselves to accusations of sexism, misogyny, LBTQ bias, et al ?

So, let's just blame this on COVID.

It's easier that way.

Dividends are bad too. Maybe the bankers and the investment houses are all in this together?
