You should notify your union anyway
of work conditions that pose a potential hazard or health threat. You do pay them dues to represent you. By the way, you are not alone. When I worked for a so–called up–scale division of Macy's, I went through the same hellish conditions: malfunctioning freight elevators, exits blocked with z–racks and display stands; I could go on, but it is now thankfully a rapidly fading memory.
