Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Is it naive to expect respect from Walmart?

The way they treat their employees is truly horrific. I worked there for 4 years and only just recently left. The two key areas of importance for them is profits and public perception. For every positive, well – worded press release that comes out touting raises for employees or other wonderful things they are doing for their associates –– multiple things are being taken from them to cover the change, ie hours cuts, no OT, hiring freezes. etc. The public is never getting the true picture of what is really happening –– and this is by deliberate design. Who asks their employees to stay late to finish projects, etc. –– only to tell these employees at the end of the week they need to go home early, or take an extended lunch hour –– to “eat” any overtime that might be coming their way. This is outrageous –– and apparently legal. Some of the things I have seen (especially since Covid) has left such a bad taste that I barely set foot in a Walmart anymore. People do need to be aware of what is happening with this organization. Most people just want to be treated with dignity and respect –– and this is a very rare thing in the current Walmart working environment.

OP, yes to all. And these same practices are rampant within every national retail organization since Covid19. Change is definitely in order to protect the working class.

I think it is perfectly natural to expect respect from ANY employer. It is a give and take situation. If we just throw morals and decency aside, then the workplace falls apart. Now, because this is Walmart, every employee is just another Win number, and is easily replaceable. As an employee, you will spend most of your time there feeling imprisioned and counting the minutes down until the end of your shift. I think there is some form of training they put forth at the Academy for management to handle employees with absolute control and very little empathy for the associate when requests are made due to personal situations, etc. So, because you are made to feel like you don't matter, it makes for a very toxic workplace. They really need to unionize, but this won't happen as this word is prohibited within the walls of Walmart.
