COBRA subsidy, anyone???

well, for those of us in the U.S., we who have been paying for COBRA coverage, "may" get some relief via the COBRA subsidy included in the last stimulus bill passed by Congress. We are to receive notices of an extended election period must be provided to assistance eligible individuals by May 31, 2021. This notice should also include information on how the subsidy will be handled. Remember, the subsidy coverage starts April 1 and runs through Sept 30. I've reached out to our stellar benefits team and get the response "we are waiting for information from HON"..... My prediction is, we won't hear anything until exactly May 31 (why provide notice any sooner than required), and HON will make getting reimbursed for April and May so painful that it will drag out to the point wherein we'll be lucky to see any money before the end of the year. Yes, HON will get reimbursed by the Gov't for these payments, but this entire process will sc––w up their cashflow.....

The first I heard of the COBRA subsidy is at this website posting. I am not surprised Honeywell is holding-out on even notifying us.

HW needs to milk every penny out of customers, employees and yes, even former employees. The last one one makes them smile

According to DOL Honeywell is required to notify qualified beneficiaries the premium assistance. Also plans and issuers should not collect premium payments from Assistance Eligible Individuals and subsequently require them to seek reimbursement of the premiums for periods of coverage beginning on or after April 1, 2021 .

yea, this hasn't happened. And we're surprised....not???

The 60 days applies to COBRA election for those who initially have not signed up for COBRA. The benefits center "chat" says they have no info or update on how Honeywell is handing the subsidy.

I'm still paying my premiums. Do we have to do/contact someone to get premiums paid?

When I called I was told letters would be going out in April to explain what’s going to happen.

Then we can most certainly count on HON paying no later than 59 days.....signed into law March 11, so we've got until about May 10 to wait and see. I've already paid for April and May and will wait in breathless anticipation for news on how I will be reimbursed

Honeywell should be paying the premiums for Apr –Sept and the Gov would reimburse Honeywell. I already made the Apr 1 payment. May 1 is coming up. No direction from benefits people.

If you were Involuntarily laid off from your job, and you are currently enrolled in COBRA, and your 18 month COBRA period is still in effect, the Government should be picking up the premiums for 6 months, between April 20201 and September 2021.

If you declined COBRA coverage, you have the option of signing up for COBRA for the April 2021 to September 2021 period with the premiums paid for by the Government.

I filed a complaint with the US Department of Labor at
https://www.dol.gov/agencies/ebsa/about-ebsa/ask-a-question/ask-ebsa

From my understanding, Companies have until 5/31 to send out notices about offering someone COBRA, they should not be charging premiums for current COBRA enrollees.

I'm hoping that Department of Labor can help me get the premium relief as spelled out in the American Rescue Plan Act.

The COBRA administrator my ex-employer is using is HealthEquity / Wageworks.

Their Better Business Bureau records are less than stellar.\
