If you're in the RTP area now, don't count on getting a job with Apple. Plenty of Apple's CA employees will move to NC. They can sell their house in CA for a fortune and get an equivalent in NC for far less.

I think @1jwz+1aya1kBp got it right.
Folks that put in the effort to be good enough for Apple or Microsoft don't want to live in aging east coast cities that define "ghetto" and have the social problems that go with it, especially in the old, deep south.
By and large the younger crowd subscribes to west coast ideals and such.
Nobody wants to live in smaller versions of Detroit that puts in the effort to be good enough for the FAANG companies. That's just not the image in their minds.
You can be the top notch parts of those organizations won't be in those cities. They are putting offices there to access cheaper labor markets.
Apple should come to Atlanta. Microsoft is already here big time.

It's actually very smart decision by Apple.
Triangle area has lot of companies like cisco ibm, rh, MS, qcom, nvidia and apple can get trained sw and hw engineers at a little cost compared totheir Cupertino or even austin office as those other companies pay peanuts.

Wonder why they picked that spot. No one really wants to live in that region when you get right down to it. It might as well be Atlanta. It's in the old Confederacy and ghetto abounds, despite the high incomes of folks working in The Triangle.
Info Tech seems to have a way of finding cr–p locations these days.
With all the $$$ in the industry... it should all pick up and move to Maui, LOL!
