Respect

Give yourself enough respect to walk away from a company that doesn’t see your worth!

For many folks it's not the "being treated as a number" thing, it's coming to the realization that you're working for a company that will stop at nothing to rain dividends on shareholders without any appreciation or respect for the people that make that possible. You don't need RR retirement to have a good retirement; for so many people it's too late because they have nothing else, and it's too late in the game, but if a person has another 20+ working years ahead of them to contribute to a 401k then they should be ok. They've taken your body and your family time, don't let them purchase your soul at a steep discount...

Explain the difference between a guy working 40 hours of overtime a week and the company cutting people to make more money. Each one is keeping people from coming back. Or management know the ones working overtime will keep doing it so they send more work there. I dont see any difference.

Anyone that doesn’t see the injustice in what Union Pacific is doing has no soul.

If you can’t see the difference, then I feel sorry for you.

I wont argue they were making record profits cause they were. But this is how capitalism works. It's the same reason most people go to the railroads. Money. No body is doing it cause they enjoy fixing a railcar or repairing track when its –10. But they pay well. And there is alot of people working overtime to make more money while our brothers and sisters are laid off. I dont see a lot of difference between the two.

I agree with most of what you said except the part about companies laying off to stay in business. UP and most of the other Railroads that went to PSR were making record profits quarter after quarter. They did not need to layoff thousands of employees to stay in business as they were extremely profitable. They are doing this for greed plain and simple. Making billions each year is not enough for the stockholders and they demand more so they can cash out their stocks and become even more wealthier leaving thousands in the cold.

I have never worked for any company were I wasn't a number. At the end of the day even a mom and pop shop will let a person go to stay in business to some this is a dream job. Good retirement good pay. To others its he–l realizing ten years in you will never have weekends off and you miss all your kids sports. Your happiness is up to you. If a person let's a job bring down their whole demeanor it's time to go. I have no problem leaving my work life at work and enjoying my family.
