Thread regarding Norfolk Southern Corp. layoffs

Prospective from the other side

I worked for NS for about 7 years. I was in the real estate department. For the Union guys out there I promise we did not have a desirable job. When I found out that new hires were making more than me I found a new job. Went from making $47k to $150k. Making a job move is terrifying but you have to do it.

I encourage current employees to be open about how much they make. Keeping it a secrete only benefits the company and it is illegal for them to prevent you from talking about it.

You need to put your energy into figuring out what’s next not your day to day job.

Yes it is out there. Better days off, holidays off, pay same or better, benefits close health Ins not quite as good but not horrible. There’s pluses and minuses but it’s not like you will never find something comparable.

I made $33 as a rr electrician. Within 3 months of my job being cut I found a gig STARTING at $40 for electrical work. No rr bs. No dues paid to worthless unhelpful unions. It’s out there and it’s much better. Just gotta be relentless in searching
